Stress is a part of life but it is how you deal with it that really matters. Remember my caraway seeds incident? That blog post is here if you missed it, but this is an example of changing the way you deal with a stressful situation. Or does work just not tickle your fancy any more? And stresses you out more than provides you enjoyment? Believe me I have been there and wrote a blog post on doing a job you love back in October last year. Here are my top tips on how to deal with stress in a healthy effective way that can be put into practice in any situation: + Remove yourself from the situation - go into another room and do what needs to be done to get those feelings out. Scream, stamp your feet, punch a pillow, whatever it may be. Get your anger and stress out in a healthy manner and then go back into the situation and you will feel a lot better. + Go for a walk - get out into nature and use this time to think and de-stress. There is nothing better than fresh air to lift your spirits and mood. + Get to bed earlier - sleep is so important for your overall health and wellbeing and if your not getting enough, well this will affect your mood. + Focus on what is within your control - some things we cannot change no matter how badly we want it, so accept that fact and move on. Don't ponder over 'what if's' and 'shoulda woulda coulda'. Life is too short to worry and stress about things that we cannot change.
+ Look for the positive in every situation - shit happens, it is all part of life but it is how you approach this that counts. Even when something not so great happens, look for the positive from the situation or at least look for a lesson learnt. + Show some gratitude - even when you have a bad day, sit down with pen and paper and write down three good things that have happened to you during that day. + Shut the door on bad days - When we say we have had a 'bad day' our brain starts to look for the 'bad' things that happen throughout the day, no matter how small. By dinner time you are so shitty because of all the 'bad' things that have happened or so your inner voice tells you. When one things happens don't tarnish the whole day as a bad day just accept what has happened and move on. + Dance like no one is watching - sometimes you just need to let loose and dance around and sing as loud as you can to your favourite song. Music is such a great tool to change your mood, Pharrell's 'Happy' song any one? + Do something that makes you smile - smile and laughter are really the best medicine! + Surround yourself with positive people - If you have been faced with a icky situation that has your blood boiling, surround yourself with the people that make you happy. The most important thing to remember with a stressful situation is to not suppress your feelings, let them happen and truly feel them but then let them go; don't hold onto them! Let me know a situation that stresses you out and how do you normally deal with it. After you have done that, from my tips above what will you try next time this situation comes up? Comment below, I would love to hear from you... If you found this blog post helpful, then please share it with your friends. Be happy & healthy,
