Radiant + Inspiring is back for 2015 and with some new juicy questions and it begins with the lovely Jo from The Mindful Morning. This is a beautiful space where Jo shares simple habits and lessons that she has learnt along the way to bring joy, intention and mindfulness into our lives. Not only does she run this wonderful website she also is a Product Developer at Loving Earth. OMG! One of my favourite health food brands. Who is with me there? I hope you enjoy this interview, as it is always a pleasure speaking with Jo. Let's jump straight into it... + Why do you do what you do? What motivated you or inspired you? I have been writing for the blog, The Mindful Morning for the last 9 months or so. I started the blog initially because I wanted a space to share my thoughts on living a more mindful and conscious lifestyle. I had been exploring my own journey around mindfulness for a while and it was something that completely changed my perspective on how I now live. This way of living led me to change my job so that I could do something that truly aligned with my values and inspired me to find confidence in my own voice through writing. When I started to explore this topic, I found that the topic of conscious living came up so often with my friends. People were asking the big questions about their purpose and how to live a life more fulfilled. What was even more interesting was that these perspectives were so different to the values and expectations that they had all grown up with. People wanted a change, but they just don't know how to take the first step forwards. I felt naturally compelled to start these conversations with a wider audience, to inspire people to live life on their own terms with mindfulness, rather than simply moving through life in autopilot. + What quote do you live by at the moment? Trust in the process. This has been a big theme for me in the last few months. I feel like it is so true for me, especially when I have come face to face with intense challenges and it can be really hard to pull yourself out of the darkness. But knowing that there is a reason why you have been handed this particular experience, so that you can learn and grow from it has helped me tremendously. I have also found it to be true for things that I have set my intentions on. Instead of trying to control the outcome, I simply declare my intention and release the expectation of how it will come about. + If you could share one piece of advice for a newbie in the wellness world, what would you tell them? Enjoy the experience and freedom of discovery! I feel like there is so much information out there and so much advice around health, wellness and self improvement that it can be a little overwhelming. However, just because there are so many resources available, it doesn't mean that you need to do or try everything or commit to doing everything perfectly. See what feels right for you, go at your own pace and be open to always learning more. + What would you tell your 14 year old self? I would tell her to embrace her inner child. In our adult years, so many of us have forgotten what its like to be truly confident in expressing ourselves. Keep doing the things that make your heart sing, rather than thinking that you need to change your identity to feel accepted. True acceptance comes from accepting ourselves first. + What is your favourite meal to cook? Can you share the recipe with us? As you may already know, I am quite fond of my mornings. And so it seems fitting that my recipe is something that I would make for myself for breakfast. I love this recipe because it is a deliciously nourishing and a beautiful start to my day ahead. Blueberry Chia & Oat Pudding Time: overnight Portions: 2 servings Benefits: dairy free, vegan Ingredients 1 cup oats 6tbs chia seeds 1 1/2 cups of your favourite nut milk 1/2 punnet blueberries 2tsp cinnamon 2tsp vanilla (powder or essence) 2tsp cacao nibs 1 handful walnuts, chopped finely Method 1. Soak the oats and the chia seeds in the nut milk overnight. I usually put these into small mason jars to take into work the next day and leave them in the fridge for soaking overnight. 2. In the morning, top your chia seed and oat pudding with cacao nibs, blueberries, vanilla, cinnamon and walnuts. 3. Enjoy! + It can be tough starting up a business/blog, what has been your biggest lesson learnt so far on this journey? I guess starting the blog has been difficult in terms of maintaining consistency; consistency with staying motivated, maintaining high energy levels and continuously creating content. However, during this last year, I have learnt that I really need to be more gentle on myself. I need to put my own wellness as a top priority and to remove force and pushing from the blogging process so that the content can have space to flow out naturally and authentically. I used to work on my blog in the evenings, after working a full day and this was definitely not the way to live consciously. It was exhausting and it quickly drained my energy and time. It was a big reminder for me to go back to honouring what I love to write about and actually live out these values on a daily basis. + What is your favourite way to move your body? I love yoga. I love creating my own yoga sequences at home to suit how I am feeling at the time. Some days I need a slower, more reflective routine and other days I want something more dynamic. + How would you like to be remembered? I would like to be remembered as someone who lives intuitively, mindfully and in full open hearted freedom. ........................................
