Over the Easter long weekend I went away 4WD and camping with some of my amazing friends in South Australia. When I came home, I was so refreshed from not being stuck to my phone 24/7 it amazed me. The reception was dodgy so I turned my phone to aeroplane mode and it only came out of my bag when I wanted to take some photos. I was free from the chain of social media and emails, it was so refreshing! Because I have my own business I think I use that as an excuse to be permanently stuck to my phone because I want to serve my clients and potential new clients straight away, but really I am sure you all don't mind if I don't get back to your straight away over the weekend and evenings. The thing that makes me laugh about social media and in particular Facebook, we think we are going to miss something if we don't check it every two seconds, or we have to let the world know about what just happened to us. Really what do we think we are going to miss? Why do we have to share with everyone that special moment instead of taking a few more moments to soak it up and take it all in? This morning on Facebook I saw a link shared by a couple of friends so I clicked it and watched this 4min 58sec video which was exactly about this topic. It really makes you realise how much we have become slaves to our phones / iPads / tablets and makes you question what are we missing out on in life because we are busy looking down worrying about what other people are doing. Check out this powerful video here. I put my hand up to confess that I am one of those people, I like to update my status, take photos and check out what other people are doing all the time on Facebook and Instagram. My business is part of this world and because it is such a huge part of our culture I have to be apart of it so I can connect with people from all over the world and spread my message and inspire. But I think it is time for me to take a stand and stick by it. I pledge to...not have my phone on me while I am eating my meals; to not look at my phone in bed instead I will read a book to wind down from the day; I will not jump up and race to my phone when a notification comes through; Sunday will become my day of keeping my phone elsewhere and on silent (if you need me pick up the phone and call my house phone) and most importantly when something amazing happens I will stay in that moment and soak every little bit of it up. I would love for you to make a stand too and start living your amazing life in person, right now and not with a phone in your hand. Leave your pledge in the comments below and share it with all your wonderful friends!! P.S Below are some of the photos I took on my weekend away, who would want to miss this! Be happy, healthy & present,
