Weight vs Centimetres...

I hate scales and I'm not afraid to let you know this!

Hate is a strong word that I would not use to describe how I feel about a person but when it comes to scales I think it is warranted due to the emotional roller coaster that comes with them.

These little plastic or glass things that sit on our bathroom floor seem to have eyes as they stare up at you and call your name to stand on them. I have come across a few people that are obsessed with their scales and what that little dial or digital face has to tell them. Is it good news today or bad?

To put it bluntly scales make you feel like shit! You are either so happy with the result or you are depressed and decide why should I bother and contemplate eating that packet of Tim Tams that is in your cupboard. Well I am telling you now to put these little things away and out of sight or ask yourself if you really need them at all!

As women, our weight fluctuates so much depending on so many factors including how much water you have drank? when did you last eat? have you got your period? have you just exercised? etc etc. Use weight as a guide to see how you are going and make sure you are on track, but once a week is plenty, no more than that!

Centimetres is where it is at! Make sure you measure yourself or get someone to help measure you as this is a true indication of how you are tracking on your healthy journey. Again, only once a week is plenty. I have had a few clients that haven't lost as much weight as they hoped but the centimetres told the real story, they were almost down a dress size but the scales only showed a loss of a couple of kilo's.

So next time you hop on your scales remember this post and think twice about getting upset or beating yourself up because you haven't lost 3kg this week, it doesn't matter! You can tell in your clothes and from other people how you are going and believe me you will be surprised when you re-measure yourself and see how many centimetres that you have lost!

Now step away from those scales!

Be happy & healthy,
