The importance of changing up your exercise...

A client of mine told me last week that she has started a body pump class; this is a class that I have always heard about but never tried. To be honest I have never done any of the Les Mills classes, until today.

One of my local gym's runs the Les Mills classes and today I had a 'Kylie morning' (me taking my time & doing something for my soul) and I saw on their timetable that body pump was on at 9:20am this morning. So I plucked up the courage and went along, I still get nervous starting something new, who doesn't? I know body pump is all about barbell's, plates, body weight exercises and music so I thought I can do this easy because I much prefer strength training to cardio.

Boy was I wrong!!

This work out is all about endurance!!

I walked into the group class room and went up to the instructor (I must admit it was nice to be on the other side of the class for a change) and told her this was my first time. She picked weights and a barbell for me and said "I know these weights look light but this is completely different to training in a gym"; I took her word for it and I am so glad I did!

The class started and I was doing okay, 5 minutes of squats with no stopping...tough but not too bad! But then as the class went on (55mins in total) my arms were shaking, my legs were trembling and my mind was struggling. This was tough! My body got a shock of a life time, I know I am fit but this really tested me, but in a good way.

It made me think about the importance of changing up your exercise style and for those of you that go to the gym, sometimes you get into a routine and not waiver far from that but it really is important to try something new.

In all my classes and personal training sessions I change every single session because I want to keep my clients body guessing and this should be the same with your gym or at home work out.

Your body is so clever and if you stick with the same ol' routine work-out after work-out your body will get used to it and you will stop seeing results.

So next time you head to the gym or do your exercise at home change it up a bit, challenge your mind and body. I know I thought I was pretty fit but this body pump class today really challenged me and made me realise a change every now and then is great!

If you would like some suggestions to add to your work-out routine leave a comment below...I would love to help you out!

Be happy & healthy,
