Getting back on track for the new year...

Over Christmas and New Year I went right off the tracks with my eating and exercise, and maybe with a little excuse of being pregnant thrown in there as well.

I was feeling tired and lethargic and I knew it wasn't because of my pregnancy, it was because of what I was putting into my body and the lack of exercise. You know what I'm talking about.

"I had stopped looking after myself.

About two weeks into January I realised I needed to make a change. It was time to get back into doing and eating what I love and that doesn't consist of fruit mince pies, chocolate and left overs from all the catch ups and gatherings we attended or hosted.

"I hate to think how much sugar I was consuming over those few weeks. Eeekk!

I always find it so much easier to stick with good habits when I am working and when I am organised.
:: I need to have my snacks prepped and in the fridge.

:: I need to have an idea of what my workout will be each morning.

:: And I need to remember how good I feel after meditating.

I have had a few conversations with clients of mine recently and they struggled through the festive season too. Did you as well? It is so common to lose track of everything when Christmas parties begin and the kids are on school holidays. But why? Why do we so easily use these things as an excuse?

// Why can't we still have our snacks prepped?

// Why can't we still exercise? Change it up to include your family and partner. Make it fun.

I know for me personally, when I don't eat beautiful nutritious food, I feel yuck. I can tell straight away. This is usually enough to get me to snap out of that behaviour and back on track.

When I got my routine back up and running I felt so much better. I get through most days without needing my little nanna nap and I can now read in bed or watch a movie on the couch with my hubby without falling asleep. I am present and not living in a world of the sugar ups and downs.

Know you are not alone with struggling this time of year; but just have the strength to pick yourself back up, dust yourself off and get back into those self-care habits...pronto! Your mind, body & spirit need it.

Hold onto that feeling of energy, excitement and goodness.

"Don't throw it all away just because there was a little bump in the road.

JOURNALLING ACTIVITY

Here is a little journalling exercise I would love for you to do...I want you to ask yourself these questions and write them down:

// How do I feel when I eat food I know isn't doing anything good for me?

// How do I feel when I eat nutritious food?

// How do I like to feel after having a meal?

Notice what comes up for you when you write down your answers.
Nutritious food always wins! Remember this next time you go off track and need a bit of a push to get back up.

Let me know in the comments below how you went with the above journalling activity or any other comments or stories you would like to share. I would love to hear from you.
