Well my sweet friend, HAPPY NEW YEAR! I hope you had a super amazing festive season that was full of love, joy and laughter with all who matter in your life.

If like me, you are back at work this week, finding your feet again and maybe even dragging them a little, I want to help you out by sharing with you some of the things I am doing and using to help get me off to a cracking start.

Organisation is key to...well life really. Without it chaos rears its ugly head and all hell can break loose. You loose motivation. Forget things that need to be done and stress creeps in, which is something that we need to minimise in our lives. So why not incorporate some simple things into your life to set you up for a successful year when it comes to health, fitness and work.

12 months of bright & blazing inspiration calendar

Thanks to Emma Kate from Emma Kate Co and Kirstin Salmon from The Strategy Lab for putting together this little gem of a calendar. Every month has a little bit of wisdom to keep you inspired and focused, what else could you ask for?! Plus it is designed so it is easy to read which is important when you are trying to see what the date is.

Don't put pressure on yourself

It is the beginning of a new year and you are back at work. You are coasting along nicely thinking that you still have a few more weeks of being a tad slacker than normal. But all of a sudden you find yourself in February and the work is starting to pile up. Stress alert!

Let's STOP that from happening right now. Take the time to plan ahead...schedule in any deadlines or work you know is coming up, meetings and appointments, how much time you will need for certain tasks and begin what you can now. 

Of course, enjoy this quieter time of the year but don't make it harder on yourself for the months ahead. Remember back to your school days where you crammed for exams or started your assignment the night before? Yep, let's not do that now we are adults. 

If you have your own amazing small business like I do, I have sat down and written out a little plan of the things I want to do and work on this year. I am not just working away blind and have no idea what is happening next. Also schedule in the things I mentioned above, especially if you are a one woman show. You need to be organised and prepared. 

Let's take that pressure off ourselves from the beginning.

Plan your meals

You have probably heard this one over and over again...but it is true and it works! I promise you!

I tell all my clients to do this especially if they are trying to lose weight and get healthier. When we don't have a plan we tend to grab whatever is handy or we skip a meal completely. Ummm...not good! So make the time to sit down for 20 minutes the day before or on your grocery shopping day and write out what you are having and when. Stick it on the fridge and presto, the hard work is done and you are set for the week. No more excuses!! 

I have done this every single week for about 3 years now and it has never failed me. It becomes part of your routine and to be honest I would be lost without it.

This diary is just GORGEOUS and what else would you expect from the amazing Lorna Jane. It is such a pleasure to open and you want to flick through it to see what is coming up. It is full of recipes, workouts, quotes & inspiration to keep you moving, nourishing and believing in yourself!

Enjoy 'me' time every single week

Another thing for you to schedule in...yep this is a key part of being organised! 

A lot of people think taking some time out for yourself is self-fish, well it isn't. It is a key ingredient to staying sane! It doesn't have to be for hours on end it can be for half an hour. As long as you take yourself away from everything and everyone and do something that you love or that relaxes you, you are doing something magical for yourself. It makes you a happier and better person so the people around you benefit as well.

I do this each day, but then again I have the luxury of being my own boss. I go outside and sit in the sunshine, I meditate, I read a book and sometimes I book myself in for a massage. All these things help me come back into myself and restore some energy and brain space. It is as important as exercising I say.   

Even if you are a mum and I know a lot of you are, this is even more important for you.

Schedule in social media, email & breaks

Scheduling in time to check and update social media is super important when you are a small business owner. Have you noticed time evaporates when you get on social media? Our time is precious and we can do so much more productive things with it then sit on Facebook and Twitter all day. So give yourself certain times during the day when you can go on social media and do whatever you need to do but also set a time limit and make sure you get off it once that time is up. You will have so much more time in your day to do actual work that is going to do wonders for your business or work. 

Emails can be such a distraction with the little window popping up when a new email arrives in your inbox. How about closing your email down and only checking it a certain amount of times per day. This will allow you to get work done and not lose your train of thought because of that little box that tells you 'you've got mail'. Believe me, you won't miss out on anything and if it is urgent, they will ring you.

I know that feeling all too well from previous jobs...having lunch at your desk because you have soooo much to do. Well I am telling you now, if you get away from your computer to eat your lunch you will come back to your desk refreshed and more productive than if you stayed put. Your boss will thank you for it when he/she gets more out of you and better work. 

Even if you're not a small business owner and don't have social media as part of your working day, you can still implement the same principles with other areas of your job.

There is a lot to think about and do but trust me, it is worth the little bit of time you invest in it now because the benefits you will get will be huge. Life will flow and you will feel in control.
