Fad diets...we all want easy!

I was watching Sunrise this morning while enjoying my yummy healthy breakfast when a story came on which has led me to writing this blog post. The story was about a young woman who calls herself Banana Girl, she has been on this radical diet for the past seven years. She has eaten up to 51 bananas in one day and only has raw food before 4pm and then a high carb dinner; fad diet any one? Now I am not going to bad mouth this girl and put her down because she says that this type of diet works for her and that is great and to be honest she has an amazing body, but really...

Now by fad diet I mean, cutting things out, only having certain foods and nothing else (soup diet for example), eating between this time and that time, no carbs after 5 etc etc...

Back to Banana Girl, the amount of natural sugar she would have in one day is astonishing; for breakfast she said she either has 10-12 bananas in a smoothie or a smoothie consisting of water, medjool dates and peppermint drops. Wow! Now I am all for natural sugar over refined sugar but this is taking it just a little too far. Plus eating only raw foods for the better part of the day is not good for your digestive system. Your digestive system needs warmth from your food to effectively digest your food which is why they say not to drink a cold drink after eating a warm meal.

This story made me think that we all want results now because we are so impatient and that is why we put ourselves through these fad diets instead of putting in the hard yards in the first place. I can tell you now, the hard work of eating healthy and exercising is so much better for you and it truly works plus your weight will stay off because you can continue on with this type of eating for the rest of your life.

I lost 10kg about 3 years ago, but mind you it wasn't a walk in the park. I lost some weight and then I fell back into old habits, then I got back into it and it came off again but this see-saw happened for a few months until something finally triggered in my head. Healthy eating and exercising is now just part of my life and as you all know is now my job where I get the absolute pleasure of helping you.

Why do we all want a quick fix that we know deep down won't last? Why can't we be patient and do what is right by our bodies? We know that fad diets are doing more harm than good to our body but we still do it to ourselves because easy wins over anything else.

We are only given one body to live in and we need to show it the respect it deserves because other wise it will come back to bite you in the bum when sickness and disease start to show up in different forms and it is too late.

I want you to make a commitment to yourself right here, right now that you will not put your amazing body through any more fad diets; you will treat your body with respect and you will put in the hard work to make healthy changes that can carry on with you for the rest of your life. Write your name in the comments below if you are with me!!

I would also love to hear what fad diets you have tried and tested...did it work for you? What happened when you stopped doing it? Leave your comments in the box below my darlings...

Be happy & healthy,
